Simurghlator

The all-new Simurghlator is our state-of-the-art modular simulation platform.
The Simurghlator is our all-new stand-alone, high-fidelity dry simulation platform. Validated and modular, the Simurghlator provides metric-based and visual performance feedback. It supports using patient-specific Tactile Anatomy, and was developed to accommodate the training of various cardiovascular and thoracic procedures.

Versatile Modular Setup

Our growing range of different interchangeable low- or high-fidelity Modules support training for specific procedures. This makes Simurghlator a future-proof platform to prepare for a wide range of different surgical procedures.

Supports Multiple Approaches

The new Simurghlator was designed to support both conventional approaches with direct vision (full sternotomy, mini-sternotomy, mini-thoracotomy), endoscopy or thoracoscopy, as well as robot-assisted approaches.

Performance Feedback

Selected Modules actively measure the exact depth, length, and height of every suture placed, which is also saved in an image. Target values can be pre-set, which enables skill optimization for even the most experienced surgeons.

Anatomical Accuracy

Highly accurate anatomical consumables have been created in materials that mimic the specific tissue characteristics for a realistic suturing experience. Using an individual patient’s 3D imaging reconstruction, you can also choose to train using 3D printed patient-specific anatomy.

Evidence Based

Our Simurghlator offers unprecedented options for dry simulation training, focused on the technically most complex parts of multiple procedures - instead of wet full procedure simulation. Its added value has been validated in multiple publications.

Stand-Alone Usability

The Simurghlator is integrated in a sturdy flight case for easy transportation. The monitor is mountable on two corners of the platform and is connected to the integrated computer and Module cameras. This enables stand-alone use without any connectivity.

Simurghlator Modules

Our Simurghlator supports interchangeable Modules to train and prepare for different surgical procedures.

The learning curve of working with the endoscopic instruments used in minimally invasive surgical approaches is steep. Not only getting a feeling for handling the instruments in your hands requires repeated practice. Intepreting endoscopic images in relation to instrument movements is a very specific skill that also calls for training and optimization.

The Basic Skills Module consists of a specifically designed hardware Module and a three level curriculum, offering exercises with increasing complexity. The first level lets you train the most basic skills by moving rings with decreasing diameters and thicknesses between different nodes with different orientations. The second level lets you make a range of basic incisions on silicone consumables mimicking human skin. In the third and final level, you will learn how to use endoscopic instruments to suture and knot using silicone consumables mimicking the atrium wall. The Basic Skills Module includes the first set of training consumables for every level.

Training Consumables

Basic Skills Consumable Set

Simurghy provides all training consumables required to follow the entire curriculum in a convenient Basic Skills Consumable Set.

Due to the complexity of the mitral valve and diversity of its pathology, mitral valve repair is among the most complex and difficult procedures in cardiac surgery. Performing mitral valve repair through minimally invasive techniques (MIMVR - whether endoscopically, through direct vision, or with robotic assistance) is even more difficult. The most critical technical steps are working with long-shafted instruments endoscopically and placing sutures on the mitral valve annulus. Therefore, the learning curve of MIMVR is steep and unfortunately still developed in patients.

The Mitral Valve Module provides a platform to train the endoscopic skills repeatedly. Additionally, this Module provides objective assessment and feedback, which is essential in any simulator-based training. This Module can also be used for robotic-assisted mitral valve repair or minimally invasive mitral valve repair with direct vision. It now features twice as many pinhole cameras as well as infrared imaging, which allows the Simurghator to measure and record the depth, width, and height of every single suture.

Tactile Anatomy Consumables

Generic Mitral Valve

The generic Mitral Valve consumables are available in closed and P2 prolapse versions and made of a specifically developed silicone to provide a realistic suturing experience.

Patient-specific Mitral Valve

Based on our 3D medical image reconstruction technology, the generic consumables can be replaced by any patient-specific anatomy, which is 3D printed in a flexible material.

Papillary Muscle

The optional Papillary Muscle Set consumable is mostly combined with a Mitral Valve P2 prolapse model and can be used for simulating the suturing of the neochordae.

Aortic valve replacement through minimally invasive procedures is a technically challenging procedure in cardiac surgery. The most critical technical steps are working with long-shafted instruments endoscopically and placing sutures on the aorta and the aortic valve annulus. Therefore, the learning curve of minimally invasive aortic valve replacement is steep and unfortunately still mostly developed in patients.

The Aortic Module provides a platform to train the endoscopic skills repeatedly. This Module provides a visual record of your performance, which is essential in any simulator-based training. It features our latest pinhole camera and supports different size aorta and aortic root models, whether generic models in specific silicone or 3D printed for patient-specific anatomy.

Tactile Anatomy Consumables

Generic Aorta/Root

The generic Aorta and Aortic Root consumables are available in two sizes and made of a specifically developed silicone material to provide a realistic suturing experience.

Patient-specific Aorta/Root

Based on our 3D medical image reconstruction technology, the generic consumables can also be replaced by patient-specific anatomy, which is 3D printed in a flexible material.

The modular Simurghlator platform supports the entire spectrum of dry simulation training options. Is enables learning the most basic skills to training the most technically challenging parts of complex procedures, using either generic models or patient-specific anatomy. The next step is to test and further optimize skills on actual biological anatomy.

For exactly this purpose, Simurghy created the Bio Module, which enables you train minimally invasive skills on a porcine heart. This Module has a versatile design that supports a range of different positions for the pinhole camera. This allows targeting and practicing on different sections of the heart, including the mitral, tricuspid, or aortic valves.
